The name Qobhan originates from an old school of Islamic sciences dating back to the seventeenth century. This historic institution was located in the northeastern part of Amedi Castle. Over the centuries, it served as a significant center for Islamic education, where hundreds of imams and preachers were trained and received their legitimacy.
